PRIVATE COPY

“Private Copy” is a compensation applied on blank carriers (CDS, DVDs, etc.) physical and digital media storage devices (smartphones, external hard disks, etc.) which allow to make copies for personal use of works protected by copyright.

“Private Copy” allows consumers to reproduce audio and video works protected by copyright for personal use only and acquired from lawful sources.

The compensation for “Private Copy” is a lump-sum remuneration to compensate authors and the entire cultural industry of the reduction of their revenues due to private copies of works which are protected by copyright. The amount of compensation considers the fact that on media and devices you can also register material not protected by copyright (works of "public domain").

PRIVATE COPY: A COMPENSATION FOR AUTHORS AND CULTURAL INDUSTRY

The compensation for private copying is paid by device manufacturers, importers or distributors to SIAE which, by law, collects and distributes it to the beneficiaries indicated by the law itself, also through intermediary organizations of the related rights and/or their most representative trade associations.
